CIM ECO Epoxy Primer

CIM ECO Epoxy Primer logo FINAL

CIM ECO Epoxy Primer is a two-component solvent free epoxy coating formulated for porous and non-porous surfaces such as concrete, wood, steel, aluminum, and other metals.

CIM eco imageCIM ECO offers the following advantages:

1)   Solvent free formula is ideal for use in environments sensitive to strong odors

2)  Seals porous substrates that helps reduce outgassing in waterproofing coatings on concrete

3)  Prevents flash rust from occurring on freshly blasted metal

Green waves

  • Solvent-free formula
  • Forms a protective film on porous surfaces to reduce outgassing in waterproof coatings
  • Prevents the formation of flash rust on freshly blasted metals
  • CIM liquid applied waterproofing membranes can be applied in as few as 4 hours after primer application

Use as primer under all CIM liquid membranes including but not limited to the following markets

  • Waterproofing
  • Wastewater
  • Chemical Containment
  • Fountains
  • Cooling Tower
  • Substrate must be clean and dry; and free of oils, grease, and other loose debris. For additional information, refer to CIM’s Instructional Guidelines
  • Pour hardener into the can containing resin. Using a power drill and spiral mixing paddle, blend thoroughly for 3 minutes
  • Pot life is 30 mins (average) at ambient temperature. Colder or hotter temperatures will increase or shorten the pot life
  • Use squeegee, brush, or roller to apply a uniform coating at a coverage rate of 5-10 wet mils
  • Allow coating to cure for at least 4 hours between coats or before applying CIM coating
  • If more than 48 hours has passed have passed since application of primer or is the coating becomes contaminated, see CIM Industries’ procedures for re-coating on CIM ECO product data sheet

What applications are suitable for CIM ECO Epoxy Primer?

When:

  • Concrete, wood, or metals substrates
  • In place of 61TN
  • When moisture content is within CIM recommended parameters

Not when:

  • Potable water required (plans to get NSF approved in the future)
  • Below 40°F
  • Green concrete
What are the key differences between CIM ECO Epoxy Primer, CIM 61TN, and CIM EMT Primer? What are the physical properties of CIM's primers?

61TN

  • CIM ECO Epoxy Primer has no solvent, no solvent order
  • CIM ECO Epoxy Primer has lower VOC content (40 g/L)
  • CIM ECO Epoxy Primer contains more solids (97% compared to 70%)
  • CIM ECO Epoxy Primer is not flammable; has a much higher flash point (>300°F to 80°F)

EMT

  • CIM ECO Epoxy Primer has higher viscosity
  • CIM ECO Epoxy Primer is less tolerant to moisture, <5% required
What are the biggest differences during the application of CIM ECO Epoxy Primer compared to 61TN/EMT?

61TN

  • CIM ECO Epoxy Primer is a 1-gallon kit (61TN was 2 gallon)
  • CIM ECO Epoxy Primer is sized to allow mixing in provided container (61TN required additional mixing container)
  • CIM ECO Epoxy Primer recoat window is 4-48 hours (compared to 12-48 on the 61TN)
  • CIM ECO Epoxy Primer does not have a strong odor
  • CIM ECO Epoxy Primer is easy to apply in confined spaces (due to no solvent odor)

EMT

  • CIM ECO Epoxy Primer is more film forming coating and sits on substrate surface more (EMT penetrates more)
  • CIM ECO Epoxy Primer has a coverage rate 175-200 sf/gal compared to 100sf/gal on EMT, because EMT penetrates more so it requires more material to get 5-10 mils on the surface
  • CIM ECO Epoxy Primer should not be used in applications where substrate moisture is >5%, use EMT instead
Quick Facts
  • First product in CIM ECO line
  • Compatible with CIM & 4Evaseal tapes
  • When under 40°F, do not use primer
  • When 40°-50°, special instructions required
